If a child asks his father for a loaf of bread, will he be given a stone instead? If he asks for fish, will he be given a poisonous snake? Of course not! 11 And if you hard-hearted, sinful men know how to give good gifts to your children, won’t your Father in heaven even more certainly give good gifts to those who ask him for them? Matthew 7:9-11
Who can resist the aroma of freshly baked bread? Many have followed that heavenly aroma in hopes of partaking in getting a taste of the warm chewy goodness hopefully dripping with fresh butter. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen as much anymore. Years ago that was the only way to get a loaf of bread, to bake it yourself. Now we just pull it off a shelf at the grocery store. But those who have experienced the aroma and taste of freshly baked bread still long for it.
Thanks to a fire, it has now become easier to experience without all the hastles. At a fire station in Florida, one of the firemen was known for the delicious homemade bread, the problem was homemade bread takes preparation time which firemaen didn’t always have. So he decided to experiment with ways to not only cut down on prep time, but prepare as much as he could ahead of time. One day the experiment had some unexpected help, a fire. He had just put a pan of rolls in the oven when the alarm went off. He quickly turned off the oven and took them out. Hours later when they returned to the station, he was prepared to throw them out, but they seemed still soft, so he decided to bake them for the remaining time. It worked! His fellow firefighters came following the aroma of freshly baked bread. They were warm, soft and delicious.
From an unecxpected what seemed to be failure or at least a setback, came frozen bread, that could be removed from the freezer and baked for the remaining time to that freshly baked deliciousness. Prayer is like frozen bread. When we pray a lot of preparation begins to happen in the heavenlies. The remaining baking time is determined by the Lord so our final product is perfectly done with optimal results and produces a pleasant aroma. In the end we will taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8).
