So then, whatever you desire that others would do to and for you, even so do also to and for them, for this is (sums up) the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12
When people would ask if we were parking cars again for the Fair this year I would say “of course!” Then they would ask me how much we were charging, and I’d say $8. Their response would be, that’s too cheap you should get at least $10! Then I would ask them, “would you want to pay that?” Their reply of course was “no”. And my reply, “well then why would you want someone else to pay that?”
We were by far the cheapest lot with the others around us starting at $15. I say starting, because when parking became sparse they would up the price. You might be thinking, that we are definitely missing out on some big bucks. But the wisdom of today’s verse pays big dividends, so many people would tell us to keep the change, and not just $2 for a $10, but when they would hand us a $20! We have return customers year after year. People are on the phone to their friends telling them to come to us to park, because not only are we the cheapest lot, but every year we hand out a small useful thank you gift.
Not only are we providing a service for people, more importantly we are Ambassadors for Jesus Christ. By providing ample parking spaces, showing kindness and not taking advantage of people is showing who Jesus and the church truly are. So many have nothing but negative thoughts of the church and Christians and the Lord has given us an opportunity to dispel some of those conceptions and replace them with good ones. This year we gave away tissue packets with Bible verses on them and we prayed over every pack that the right verse would go to the person who needed that one. This way, every time they use a tissue not only are they reminded of the verse, but of the kindness they were shown. It’s not about the money, God always makes sure that gets taken care of. It’s about helping people see Jesus and giving them a new perspective of His church,
