You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand! Psalm 139:5-6
There is something special about a Friday evening. The work week is over for many and there is a freedom that comes from not having to punch that proverbial clock for two days. There is a shift in our thinking and even though those days might be filled with things to do, we look at them differently, especially if we are looking forward to Sunday and a time of fellowship and worship.
Today’s verse is a wonderful reminder of the purpose we stop our routines and go to our Father’s house to meet with the rest of our family. As we meet together we are led to remember the goodness and greatness of the Lord. The fact that He goes before and in back of us is amazing. But that He places His righteous right hand of blessing on our head is, well, a bit overwhelming when we think about it. Those times when we’re having a great day and we’re celebrating and enjoying life, His hand is upon our heads. But His hand is also there when we’re down at the bottom and everything is going wrong, that hand of blessing is still there.
Although those low times might feel like anything but a blessing. If we realize it’s there and remember we are His precious children and look to Him, He will lift us up and bring us out to higher ground than we stood on before. The truth that Almighty God who flung the stars in place, holds the seven seas in the palm of His hand, yet lovingly places His hand on our heads to bless us is overwhelming. How can we not worship such a loving, caring Father. Make some time to be alone with Abba this weekend and let Him know how much you treasure His touch of love.
