You spread out our sins before you—
our secret sins—and you see them all. Psalm 90:8
The other day I saw a mystery TV show that was about a man who was killed and as they began to investigate the murder, they found out out there were a lot of suspects. This man was not liked by everyone they spoke to.
As they got deeper into the investigation they realized the suspects were not telling them the entire truth. Eventually they found out that he was blackmailing all of them in different ways. But because no one wanted to reveal what they were being blackmailed for, wrong conclusions were being formed. In the end there were more deaths and lives were ruined.
It made me think what are some of the things we try to hide from one another and God. James tells us that we should confess our sins to one another, simply so we can be healed (James 5:16). But we are fearful that if we do, people will think less of us, or question our salvation and loyalty to God and worse of all talk about us. But keeping secrets are destructive to everyone involved and can cause people to draw the wrong conclusions leading to deception.
We don’t have to confess to everyone, but we should confess it to God and then find someone to confide in or an accountability friend. Coming clean means the enemy has nothing to “blackmail” us with anymore for all has been brought to light. And as we remember we have been forgiven past, present and future and we are loved with an everlasting love, it will keep us from sin and its consequences. For when you fall in love with Jesus, you will fall out of love with sin.
