On his robe and on his leg was written this name: King of kings and lord of lords. Revelation 19:16
As I continue to research and study about the founding of our nation I saw another quote by John Adams, that I keep thinking about; We recognize no sovereign but God, and no king but Jesus! And I think about how different the true King is from all earthly ones. Most kings who have not themselves been ruled by God have authority and power, but misuse it.
However, Jesus on the other hand was a perfect balance that only the Son of God could show us. Perhaps the song Meekness and Majesty describes Him; Meekness and Majesty by Graham Kendrick, in 1986. As I think on the lyrics I can’t help but believe that this is how the Founders of America saw God the Father and Jesus. As you read Grahams words, you can’t help but get a better understanding how they saw that the only way they could secure independence from and worldly king was to have total dependance and trust in the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Perhaps our getting back to the foundations this nation was built on is to get back to seeing God as they did and follow their path to seeing the Providential will of God to once again rule over us and exalt Him to His rightful place in this land He created.
Meekness and majesty
Manhood and Deity
In perfect harmony
The Man who is God
Lord of eternity
Dwells in humanity
Kneels in humility
And washes our feet
Father’s pure radiance
Perfect in innocence
Yet learns obedience
To death on a cross
Suffering to give us life
Conquering through sacrifice
And as they crucify
Prays: ‘Father forgive.’
Wisdom unsearchable
God the invisible
Love indestructible
In frailty appears
Lord of infinity
Stooping so tenderly Lifts our humanity
To the heights of His throne
O what a mystery
Meekness and majesty
Bow down and worship
For this is your God
This is your God
