the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. Luke 2:10
Last night when I took the dogs out to my surprise it was gently snowing. It was like being in a Hallmark Christmas movie. As the light caught it you could see it swirling slowly on its way to the ground that now had a dusting of white. I love snow, especially when it’s the first of the season and around Christmas. I sparkles like millions of diamonds and it acts like a blanket that brings a peace and quietness.
Yesterday was the third Sunday in Advent that ushered in the week of joy. I couldn’t wait to give the dogs their treats to get back outside and walk in the quietness and thinking about today’s passage. Just like on that first Christmas night, although there are many things that we can be afraid of, we are reminded not to be afraid because our Savior came into the world to give us hope and peace over whatever trouble or issues lie before us. As I walked I could hear the snow crunching under my feet and realizing that anything that is trying to destroy or harm me, was crushed under the feet of Jesus and the cross and His resurrection.
The great joy of the Gospel is remembering that my sins, past, present and future have not only been washed away, but also now God sees me wearing the white robe of Jesus’ righteousness and my relationship has been reconciled back to my Heavenly Father and I can call myself a child of the Most High God! I also noticed it no longer was quite as cold and damp as it was before, that blanket of comfort, knowing I am wrapped in the arms of love beyond anything I can imagine.
Since the forecast was for the snow to turn to rain, I walked in it for a bit with all those images “dancing in my head” and the joy of knowing and being loved by such an awesome Savior! So the next time snow seems like a inconvenience, think about the inconvenience it was for Jesus to make us “white as snow” and to reconcile us back to God. Then thank Him for the snow to help remind you of the greatest Christmas gift you were ever given.
