Be careful—watch out for attacks from Satan, your great enemy. He prowls around like a hungry, roaring lion, looking for some victim to tear apart. 1 Peter 5:8
The other day I was listening to Dr. David Jeremiah and he shared an acronym for BUSY: Being Under Satan’s Yoke. It made me think, for several months now I won’t say I’m busy. One day as I was texting someone as I typed “busy” I heard in my spirit, stop saying that, your day’s not busy, it’s full of. . . instead. I changed that text and I liked it, so I continued to do use full instead of busy. But it wasn’t until I heard Dr. Jeremiah say that I realized I was actually closing a door on Satan working in my life.
He is truly a great enemy who wants to keep us from experiencing the abundant life Jesus died and rose again to give us. Notice it says he is looking for a victim to tear apart. This means that not everyone is a victim who he can attack. Being careful and watching out means we need to know what to look for, how he works, his methods and tactics. One of those things is how we speak to and over ourselves and others. We often set ourselves up to be the enemies victim simply by saying negative and limiting things. Words like “busy ” have definitions that are wide open, such as; a great deal to do, to be occupied, actively or fully engaged, earnest effort to accomplish something. Busy may be action or occupation, but the question is, is it puposeful? He is so deceptive and clever to use things that seem harmless.
The truth is, knowing how he works isn’t enough, because he is always looking for a way to attack. And when we do know, he gets more deceptive. That’s when we need to listen to Holy Spirit more when He gives us nudges. He is always trying to protect and warn us when we’re missing something. Walking in the Spirit means we are in constant communication with Him, leading, guiding and giving us discernment beyond what we see, hear and know. The enemy seems to be working overtime these days so now more than ever we need to be open to learn more about Holy Spirit and trust His leading, even when it seems like nothing. Let’s not be another victim of the enemy that he has torn apart.
