“There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?” John 6:9
This amazing account of Jesus taking a boys lunch and feeding at conservative estimates 15,000 people, teaches us so much more than what our itnitial look tells us.
We’ve been looking at how the ememy tries to keep us deceived so he can continue his plans of destruction and death. One of those deceptions especially in the church is that it’s only the big things that count in the Kingdom of God, and if you’re not doing “big” things for the Lord, then you’re not doing enough. Feeling insignificant or unseen causes people to believe that if you’re not doing things “for” the church, then you’re not doing it for the Lord.
Thinking like that means that doing everyday things, like being at work, helping your neighbors, being kind to someone you don’t know, doing “menial jobs” are not serving the Lord. But today’s verse tells us just the opposite. How? Who do you think packed that young boys lunch? I’m sure it was his mom, because especially in Biblical times they did that kind of thing. Anyway, although her name is never mentioned, we’re still talking and writing about her act of loving kindness, and the miracle that happened because of what she did.
If she would not have packed that lunch, Jesus could not have used it to feed thousands of hungry people. He also couldn’t have taught the power of a thankful heart, that the Father hears us when we pray, that He is our Provider and He always provides more than enough. That “insignificant” act Jesus used to fill a need, teach lessons that are still being used today.
Don’t get deceived by the enemy, remember there are no insiginificant daily acts of love and kindness that He can’t use to show us how amazing and loving He truly is.
