Years ago I heard the quote “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” And it sounded true, because we see it happen almost everyday. But yesterday I heard something that has completely changed my mind. Now instead of it being words of wisdom, it has to be the most foolish quote anyone has ever made.
Think about it, the first part of this quote is true for the most part. Power in the wrong hands corrupts not only the person, but everything it touches. It’s the second part that is not only deceptive, but an outright lie. Who is the only One that ever existed that has absolute power? Correct, it’s God! God who Scripture says is love itself. He is grace and mercy, of all compassion, heals the broken hearted and on it goes. So how then can He be corrupt when His word tells us over and over He hates corruption? The answer is He can’t be. So when we see things spinning out of control, or thinking that evil is taking over, remind yourself that’s impossible; because absolute power comes from Jehovah God who’s will it is that none should perish but all come to know Him through His Son who gave His life so we can live forever. And we through Jesus has given us power to overcome the enemy, so let’s use the power we have been given and watch the enemy crumble.
