Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:3,4
How many times have you heard, declared and yet wondered why verse 4 was just not working for you? If you’re like most Believers the answer is too many too count. Maybe it’s because we’re looking at it with eyes of the world and forgetting to see it from the Lord’s perspective.
Look at what verse 3 says, that we should trust in the Lord and do good. But then it goes farther and says we should dwell in the land where we are to feed on His faithfulness. But what land is the writer talking about? Perhaps it isn’t land as we know it at all. What if it’s talking about about dwelling in His kingdom and where we can feed on His faithfulness. Now we have a context, the Psalmist is focusing on our relationship with Him.
Which now makes verse 4 more understandable. When we delight ourselves in the Lord, we enjoy our relationship with Him, want to spend time with Him, desiring to walk with Him and talk with Him. We not only delight in being with Him, but He also delights in fellowshipping with us! We better understand Matthew 6:33, that when we seek Him first and His righteousness then everything else is added to us. See, the desires of our hearts aren’t material, they are spiritual and relational, and that when we focus on Jesus the true desire of our heart, we will be able to receive the abundant life He came, died and rose again to give us. So maybe we should ask ourselves if we’re desiring Him or everything He can give us?
