It is through him that we are able to live, to do what we do, and to be who we are. As your own poets have said, ‘We all come from him.’ Acts 17:28 ERV
Arthur Guiness built a Brewery empire by treating his employees as he would want to be treated. He taught that principle to his children and his leadership. To this day that legacy still functions in the Guiness breweries. That’s because, doing business with God’s principles were more than successful, they were transformational. Arthur not only helped his employees live better lives, but he helped the entire community. He and other’s who heeded the call from John Wesley and became followers of Jesus were known as Monday Christians.
Monday Christian’s were those who lived out their transformed lives everywhere. It was not only held to the church building at Sunday services, but was seen in their work places, and ran over into their communities. Arthur changed healthcare and helped establish Meath Hospital in Dublin and sat on the Board. He hired Dr. John Lumsden to survey the communities who then developed programs and policies to aid in better health care and diesease prevention for the public. His heart was for the poor to help lift them out of their poverty by meeting their needs and introducing them to Jesus. Although not a Catholic, he supported the rights of the Catholic Church although many went against the teachings of the Anglican Church of England.
Monday Christians took their faith in Jesus outside the church walls and became Jesus to thier communities. Everything was done for the glory and honor of God, because after all He was the One who made the Provision for everything and in so doing, not only brought change but true transformation that continued across generations. Perhaps we should all consider becoming Monday Christians and and help transform our communities as we show them Jesus.
