For God will never give you the spirit of fear, but the Holy Spirit who gives you mighty power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7 TPT
Yesterday we began our new Sermon Series about the purpose of Holy Spirit in our lives. When we hear Scripture talk about the power of Holy Spirit, it seems we automatically go to the miraculous with healing, casting out demons, speaking in tongues, etc. But is that really what “Holy Spirit Power” means? According to Scripture the answer is NO! Those things are wonderful and needed in the Kingdom of God, especially in witnessing to reach the lost. In John 15:5, Jesus Himself said apart from Him we could do nothing. Then He reassured His followers that when He would leave He would send them Holy Spirit who would, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) John 16:7b AMPC. When you put those together, He will be that to us in ALL things even the everyday and seemingly mundane things of life. Over the next several weeks our Daily Devotions will be focused on how we need to cooperate with and utilize Holy Spirit so that we can accomplish all the Lord has planned for us.
You may be saying so what are these “every day” things that Holy Spirit empowers us to do? They are things we think we do on our own, but when we think about it, we know how much we He is needed to; love the unlovely, give grace to those who don’t deserve it, forgive the unforgiveable, help us pray, understand the Scriptures better and be bold in sharing Jesus, just to name a few. Are you beginning to see Holy Spirit power needs to go deep into our lives, so that we can truly live transformed lives and in turn help others become transformed so that the world will see who Jesus truly is. Our world is changing, everything we have put our trust in, or what gave us stability is eroding away. You don’t have to look far to feel like the world is spinning out of control and there is no hope. But Holy Spirit reminds us there is always hope, and it is found in the One who never changes, Jesus!
This coming week we are going to focus on the foundational empowerment of God’s love for us. According to 1 John 4:16, God Himself is love and without being transformed by His love, we truly can’t love others. Only God’s love can be a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others. Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up. 1 Cor. 13:7 TPT. 1 Peter 4:8 reminds us that this God like love doesn’t focus on the wrong, and the negative, and not only “bears” with it, but wants to correct and change it, so that we can see Him better. Don’t lose hope, God will always show us the way and hope will never die.
