“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together! Matthew 25:21
The Parable of the Three Servants is one of Jesus’ best know parables. Most times when it’s taught, it’s all from the money aspect and stewardship. But I’ve learned that it also has a deeper meaning and that it’s not about material or monetary stewardship, it’s about spiritual stewardship and the gifts talents and abilities He has given us to show His Kingdom to others. But it also shows God’s heart of love for us that is so often missed.
Although some people are put off that the servants were entrusted with different amounts, Jesus tells us the difference in amounts was because of the differences in the servants. He gave them according to their abilities, so they wouldn’t be set up to fail, only to do their best with excellence. How do we know this?
Because with the two servants that took what they were entrusted with and did something with it that multiplied it, the Master said the same thing, “well done good and faithful servant”. It wasn’t what they had, but what they did with it, and he was pleased with both. But with the servant who didn’t even try to do something he had nothing good to say and he even lost what he had been given. God will never ask us to do something He has not equipped us to do, but He wants us to use the abilities, gifts and talents He has given to us. Actually it’s the best way we can say thank you.
So if you’re feeling God can’t use you or you don’t have a purpose or a gift, know it’s just a feeling, it’s not God. Spend time with Holy Spirit often asking Him to show you the purpose He has for you and in turn the abilities that will help you do it with excellence, and I guarantee it, He will give you so much more than you ever expected.
