He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. 2 Corinthians 5:15
At the end of the day have you ever laid in bed realizing you had little or no time to spend with God that day? It happens to me more than I would like. I came across an old devotion I wrote recently and it seemed to be the perfect one for reminding me how important it is to make time for Jesus our best friend daily. So here is my old devotion that still is a great reminder how important it is to make the time not only for God but then be Him to others.
Once a week I go to a local Assisted Living for a time of singing hymns, a brief message of hope and encouragement from the Scriptures and prayer. I also make time to minister in different ways by sometimes extending the singing time to include old favorites like Old Susannah, My Wild Irish Rose, You Are My Sunshine, etc. I meet and talk with those who won’t or can’t come to the service.
But I have to admit some Thursdays I’m in a hurry to leave, because there is so much more to do before the week is over. But this particular Thursday gave me an entirely new perspective on how important my time is there. As we were saying our good-byes, one of the woman pulled me closer to her and said; “If we write a letter to your boss, do you think he would let you come more often?” Of course we were joking around and I said “well, since my boss is God, you pray and ask Him to give me more time.” She agreed, we hugged and kissed and off I hurriedly went to my next task.
It wasn’t until later, when I slowed down and told the story to someone else, that the comical quote, brought tears to my eyes and I allowed God to speak to my heart. I had to admit I’m tired of running out of time to do things, I’m tired of always rushing here and there and I’m tired of not making more time for God Himself. It took a 91 year old lady, to grab me by my boot straps and in a nice way helped me realize I need to make some changes in my life. Maybe you’re finding you’re experiencing the same thing, if so, take the time to slow down and spend more time with God and be Him to more people. And maybe they will slow down too.
