And when they raised their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. Matthew 17:8
Last night I was at a meeting with other Pastors and we were sharing in the same conversation I have heard over and over again lately and that is everyone is dealing with some type of lack. Whether it’s finances, people attending church, hope, peace, everyone, everywhere seems to be facing this enemy attack. And every time I hear it, I think of today’s verse.
Not too long ago I heard Joseph Prince praying and he said, “it you are facing a mountain, look to no man, but Jesus only.” And then he referred to the passage in Matthew 17 that spoke of the Transfiguration of Jesus. Peter, James and John were with him as He was lifted up and He was transformed that His glory radiated from Him and He to stood with Moses and Elijah. They were awestruck, then God spoke “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.” a sight that brought all three to their knees. But, Then Jesus came over and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” 8 And when they looked up, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus.
This passage has spoken to me over and over again over the past weeks as I hear the frustration, hopelessness and fear produced by our enemies attacks. Attacks so debilitating and vicious that make us feel like there’s no way out that we forget to stop looking around and to mere man for help and the answers. We need to look to Jesus only and listen to Him! Not only listen to His words, but declare His powerful overcoming Word to our mountains, whatever they may be. He told us that when we “speak” to our mountains, they will have to move!
I don’t know what mountain you may be facing today, but I do know that Jesus is our mountain moving Savior, even if He choses to move them one rock at a time. But this happens when we let Him touch us and hear Him say “don’t be afraid”, then raise our eyes upward and see Him only. Oh what joy will fill our hearts and minds and He will make a way where there is no way.
