For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control]. 2 Timothy 1:7 Amp
Did you notice today’s verse points something out to us that we often miss, fear, is a spirit. An evil tormenting spirit that can only operate in and accomplish the destruction it’s set out to do if we allow it to. It doesn’t matter if it shouts or whispers, once it works it’s way into our mind and we give it a thought, it will multiply quickly. That’s why it’s so important that we counter it immediately!
And God is so good, He even gives us the counter to whatever fear might be saying to us. First, we need to remind fear that greater is the One (Holy Spirit) Who is in us than him who is coming against us. When we confront any fearful thoughts right out of the gate, we’re taking the strong stand spoken of in Ephesians 6:13-14. Next we are reminded how much we are loved and protected, because we have been given an armor to withstand such attacks. Wearing this armor, we are completely covered from our head with the helmet of salvation that reminds us we have the mind of Christ, to the breastplate of righteousness that keeps our hearts calm, to the shoes that keep us in His peace.
When the enemy sees and realizes that there is nothing he can do to engage us and ultimately destroy us, he will move on as all bully’s do. But this will only happen when we remember that we are not wrestling against flesh and blood, but the powers, principalities and spirits of the air. This is beyond our control, and can only be accomplished, by giving control of the natural human confrontation over to Jesus, who through Him we have the victory! So next time fear comes knocking at the door, remember you’re not in control, step out in faith, stand in your armor knowing nothing can come against you and win, for you’re standing in the power of Almighty God!
Transformation Thought: Fear only exists because you feel that you’re not in control. Give up the need to be in control, take a leap in faith, and fear will vanish as the mists in the morning. Sun. John Harricharran
