“Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.” John 11:11
Scripture tells us that Jesus’ friend Lazarus was sick, and his sisters called for Him to come and heal him. But Jesus did something amazing he said no! And then waited two more days, and then Lazarus died. As a matter of fact this is where He tells everyone that Lazarus has died or fallen asleep. Then He went to see them.
Once there, Mary and Martha had some questions for Him, where were You and why did you let our brother die? He tried to comfort them by reminding them they would see him again and he wasn’t talking about in heaven. So He asked to be taken to where he was buried.
When they got there, Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” and Martha said the most precious thing in the King James, “but Lord, He stinketh!” Then Jesus called out “Lazarus, come out!” And out hopped Lazarus bond up in burial wrap like a mummy, and Jesus told those with them to “lose him” and set him free.
Today I’d challenge you to ask yourself, does Jesus need to wake me up? Do I have some stinky things in my life? And do I still have some grave clothes binding me? Too often things in our lives die, such as relationships, especially with God, love for someone or something, joy and happiness, life in general. When something dies, it begins to decompose and stink. Jesus said He is the Resurrection and the Life, whatever in your life is dying or dead, call on Me and I can breathe new life into it. Jesus allowed Lazarus to die and rise again so that He could prove the power of the resurrection wasn’t only for Him, but for all who are willing to believe in Him. If you need some fresh restoravtive breath of Jesus into your life, just ask Him and He will give you what you need.
