Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too. Mark 11:22-25
Today we’re going to learn the third lesson Jesus taught from the fig tree. When Peter passed the withered fig tree, he remembered that Jesus had cursed it and what he said really happened. So Jesus took the opportunity to use the lessons of having total trust in Him alone and knowing the power of our words when spoken by faith in His name could literally move mountains. Maybe not physical mountains, but any issue that is a mountain that stands in our way that prevents us from living the victorious life that Jesus died to give us.
This lesson was not just for His disciples then, but all His disciples who would come after them. So why don’t we see more mountain moving things happening in our lives? Let’s look at what Jesus said. First our faith needs to be in Him, not in anything else. Galatians 2:20 reminds us that we have the faith OF the Son of God. It is His faith that we draw on when our faith becomes weak, all we need to do is look to Him. When we continue to focus on Him and all He is, our doubts fade and faith will grow in your heart. As it does you will actually be able to envision you have what you are asking for.
Finally Jesus talks about something we often forget about, to not hold anything against anyone. Why? Because resentment, jealousy, envy and bitterness will affect our hearts. It’s difficult to forgive someone when we forget how much we have been forgiven of ourselves. When we remember all that we have been and will always be forgiven of by Jesus who never sinned when we asked Him to become our Savior and Lord, how can we possibly not forgive others of their sins. Forgiveness is a form of cleansing and allows grace and His favor to flow not only in our lives, but to flow out onto others.
What mountains are you facing lately? Why not apply the lessons Jesus taught and watch those mountains be removed. Sometimes they will go quickly and other times they will be removed over time, just remember your faith is in Jesus alone.
