12The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be fresh and flourishing, Psalm 92:12-14 NKJV
I got a new background picture on my computer. It was a multi level waterfall flowing between lush greenery, but there amongst the greens were also dead brown limbs from a bush and trees that had apparently died. But how could that be, if they were right there by the water source surrounded by other green living and thriving plant life?
From a picture we can’t know specifically what caused the death of the plants. But we can know it wasn’t because it didn’t have a food source, because they are in the ground and they are along side of water. The problem is the roots weren’t receiving the nutrients from the ground and the water.
It reminded me of our relationship with God and His Word. Once we have asked for forgiveness and accepted Jesus’ sacrifice we have everything we need to grow and thrive in Him, But we still have to receive and accept all He has provided. God’s grace is always flowing for us, the question is are we in a position of receiving it? Or are we trying to make things happen by doing things ourselves? Are we relying on ourselves, what we know, who we know and the worlds wisdom? Every time we rely more on ourselves and focus more on our circumstances rather than His grace and provision we hinder the flow of them.
It’s difficult to make the transition of thinking, but not impossible. We need to remember we are the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus not because of things we do or don’t do, but knowing we are in Christ Himself. When we remember it’s not about what we do or don’t do, but because we are in a relationship with Him will we trust Him enough to believe what He did for us was enough. Then His favor will flow and we will walk in His grace and experience the abundant life He told us we could have.
