Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Ed Rush is an entrepreneur, business consultant and an Ex-Marine Fighter Pilot. He also wrote the book God Talks. It’s about learning to ask God to show you the lies the enemy has told you about in areas of your life and then revealing the truth to you by asking God questions. Actually it’s pretty amazing, because it opens up communication between you and God and develops a deep intimate friendship with Him. Doing this changed his life so greatly he said he had to share it with others and the results were amazing.
He tells a story in his book about the time when he was a training pilot at Miramar Aviation Center. It was one of his first training flights as an instructor and in his self-assuredness and pride he decided to use a risky maneuver against his student. It didn’t work as he thought and his plane began to spin out of control. He tried counter measures but nothing worked. Then a familiar voice came to mind saying calmly, “if your plane ever is out of control, just let go of the stick”. Now for most people that isn’t what you want to do when you’re flying a 40 million dollar plane. But the plane has software that if you let go of the control stick the program takes over and rights the plane. So he let go and the plane leveled out and he could land without a hitch.
As Believers we have new software also that communicates with our Creator. When life seems to be spinning out of control, it’s best for us to “let go” and let God take over until we’re corrected and can once again maneuver the situation with our internal navigator Holy Spirit. Isn’t Abba amazing? He placed in us the ability to let go and let Him take over when we feel things are just too far out of our control. The question is when we hear that calm assured voice telling us to let go, are we willing to let Him have complete control back temporarily until we are back under control. If we do, He gets us stable and then our partnership with Him continues and we walk through this life interdependent until we need to let go again and place our situation in His more than capable hands and we can be assured He will make things right.
