Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
Yesterday we enjoyed a powerful and uplifting worship service. And as usual I was pumped, after I took my Mom home, I continued to worship in the car. I stopped by Walmart for a few things and picked up a watermelon. After trying to fit it unsuccessfully in the netted bin, I thought I had it securely wedged in the corner.
As I continued to drive home, I also continued with my worship. That is until I heard my watermelon rolling around freely in the back of my SUV. I stopped praising and calmly said “Lord, there’s no place to safely pull over right now, so please keep the watermelon safe because it would be a real mess if you didn’t. I no sooner said Amen and the rolling stopped. Although my mind wanted to think the worst, I kept worshipping until I could get a chance to pull over. When I went to open the hatchback I did with great caution, but instead of a rolling watermelon, I stood in amazement. There was the watermelon wedged in the netted bin, just like someone placed it there.
I began to laugh as I said, “Only you Lord, could put a bushel in a peck and make it work, thank You!” As I began to drive away all I could think of was the goodness of our Abba. Such a little seemingly insignificant request, but God honored it and did what I could not do, even though I tried my hardest to make that melon fit. Then I thought about how often I asked God for help, only to continue to try to make it happen without Him. And He’s so gracious, He just let me continue to do it my way only to fail, because I thought I had it. Well, lesson learned, from now on when I ask, I’m going to let go and let God do it and I will gladly reap the rewards. Maybe you want to think about it too.
