Casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]. 1 Peter 5:7 AMP
A Professor poured a glass of water in front of his class, then held it up and asked his students, “how much does this glass weigh?” There were various answers, 8 ounces, 12 ounces, 16 ounces, all possible answers.
Then he said, “it doesn’t matter how much the glass filled with water weighs, because the weight doesn’t change. However, the longer I hold it, the heavier it feels and eventually my arm will become numb and paralyzed.” The only way to avoid becoming paralyzed and incapable of doing anything is to let it go.
It’s a parallel to us holding onto the hurts, worries and stresses of life. We may not be able to control being hurt or things to worry or be stressed about. But we can let go of their impact quickly. And when we do, the less long lasting damage they will be able inflict on us. So how do we let go? First by forgiving the person or people who caused the it. Then we need to protect our hearts and minds by replacing the thoughts and feelings the enemy wants us to think about with Scripture. Jesus fought off Satan in the wilderness by quoting Scripture, replacing the lies with truth.
What are the hurts, stressors and worries that you are facing right now? Maybe you already are weary and paralyzed by them. But with God there is always hope. Romans 6:3-4 reminds us that suffering produces perseverance and patience which produces character. Romans 15:13 tells us that we have overcoming hope through the power of Holy Spirit living in us. With whatever strength you have, by the power of the Spirit, let go of the weights and cast them to Jesus, who already has paid for our freedom from them. Then enjoy the weightlessness you are experiencing and praise the Lord with all that is within you!
