Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses said and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people they are stronger than we are.”And they spread among the Isrealites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size”. Numbers 14:30-33
I know spring is coming because when I’m outside, I often hear that familiar honking sound and I know the geese are beginning to fly north once again. However, one day while I was working outside for an extended period of time, I noticed that after a flock had passed over, within an hour or so two or three geese would be flying back from where they came. Honking every now and then, but nothing to even really take notice of them. About an hour or so later, the honking sound could be heard in the distance. As I looked toward the direction of the sound the sky was spotted with black dots as they came into focus more geese were following the two that had flown over head not to long before.
A small group went out to find a suitable place for the rest of the flock to fly to. Once that was accomplished, two or so were sent out to bring the others back. Those geese trusted the others, and followed them to a place of provision, and rest.
It reminded me of the account of the spies going out to scout the promised land. 12 went out and they found a fertile land filled with wonderful things, such as pomegranetes, figs and a cluster of grapes so big that it had to be carried on a pole by two men! Yet 10 of them reported that there was too much danger because of the people who lived there. But two of them said let’s do it, so we can move ahead to a better place, God will get us through whatever comes against us.
Are we who have a realtionship with Jesus, going out and encouraging and leading others to a relationship with Him? Do we show them that although there may be danger and difficulty that knowing Jesus will help them find what they need to live a better life? We should have more of a goose mentality, that once we find our provision, safety, security and rest, then we should go out and lead others to that place. Will you be a goose today and lead someone into a relationship with Jesus?
