For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:10-11
It’s been quite the week, beginning with Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey to fulfill prophecy (Zechariah 9:9), Friday, He purchased our forgiveness of sin, healing in every area of our lives and freeing us from the curse of the fall by nailing them to the tree. Then on Sunday His resurrection proved that everything He died for is sealed forever for all those who accept Him and His sacrifice.
His resurrection told us that from that point on His standing is also our standing. His position being seated in heavenly places is our position (Eph. 2:6). His victory is our victory (1 Cor. 15:56) and what He conquered we have conquered (Col. 2:15). Satan is a defeated foe, he no longer has any dominion or power over us. But he is a master deceiver and liar, and if we willingly fall for them he can steal, kill and destroy us. That’s why it’s so important for us to remember who we are in Christ and Whose we are in the Father.
When the enemy tries to lie to us and we answer Him with the Word of God he is stopped in his tracks and his attacks on us are rendered useless. Today’s verse reminds us that our sins are paid for forever, so we are dead to sin. The life we now live is through Jesus Christ who has made us fully alive in every way so the devil can’t defeat us. So although the enemy will continue to attack us, he will be the one who is destroyed and we can be victorious and more than conquerors.
