Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. Hebrews 12:1-3
Today is the closing of the Olympic Games and what an incredable 19 days of competition it was. Many world and olympic records were broken and new standards set. There were jaw dropping moments of athleticism and true sportsmanship in showing kindness to others. There was joy and there was disappointment and broken hearts. Hope was also born looking forward four years. And although there might have been times of tension for the most part they were having fun doing what they love.
But win or lose, they are leaving Paris preparing for the next challenge. Being a Believer is very similar to an athlete as we are reminded in todays passage. We too can’t stop and quit, we need to go on preaching the Gospel and as it has been so often said sometimes we don’t even need to use words. Let us always remember that whether in word or in actions we are representatives of the of the Lord of all and King of all kings! We have royal blood flowing through our veins and as He is, so are we in this world! Let us never give up or give in to spreading the Gospel to this dark and dying world.
