Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
The word believe is found in the Bible anywhere from 249-267 times depending on the translation. The bottom line is just that it is used a lot and it would benefit us to take heed and consider that for a Believer, it is foundational to our spiritual growth and deepening our relationship with the Lord.
Today’s verse reminds us that if we choose to let Him, God can fill us with joy and peace in believing that with Holy Spirit, nothing is hopeless. And let’s be honest, what we see and hear can make us feel hopeless. This verse makes it plain and simple that the difference between feeling hopeless and abounding in hope no matter what, is the person of Holy Spirit in us. Why is that, because hope comes from God Himself.
Since Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus living in us then we don’t even need to generate our own hope, because the One who is hope is living inside of us. However, we do need to utilize what we have been given. When we see and hear things that look like they will never change, we need to draw on Holy Spirit Hope and as Paul would say, “fan this gift into a fire” and burn up all those things that are trying to destroy our hope. As we do that our trust and reliance on the Lord becomes strengthened and we realize everything we have and are comes from the Lord. We can’t stop the destructive things from happening, but we can counter their effects by stirring up the hope inside of us and demolishing those things that are trying to steal, kill and destroy us.
