As he rode along, the crowds spread out their garments on the road ahead of him. 37 When he reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen. “Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven, and glory in highest heaven! Luke 19:36-28
Jesus enters Jerusalem to people shouting praises, waving palms and putting their coats on the ground for the donkey Jesus was riding on to walk on. It was an entrance fit for a king. But this King would only have a royal entrance, because by the end of the week they would be calling for His crucifixion.
Tomorrow we will celebrate Palm Sunday, a day that begins the path for the scourging, crucifixion and resurrection of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. In just a few short days we see the crowds going from one extreme to another and then swing back again. Now before we get to hard on those that were there, think about how often we do the same thing.
One day we can be praising the Lord with all our hearts, singing about how wonderful and awesome He is. Then something happens that upsets us and we find ourselves asking God why is He doing this and what have we done to deserve this? Then we go one step further and ask Him why He has abandoned us? Then there are extreme cases where the people turn away from God and get angry at Him for “doing” this to them and say they hate God. So I ask you, are we really any better than the people who lived while Jesus walked this earth.
The answer is NO, as a matter of fact we are just like them. And He too is still the same, in He loves us in spite of how we speak to Him or treat Him He loves us with an everlasting love. He loves us when we are rude, crude and socially unacceptable. We don’t deserve His forgiveness, grace and mercy, but when we accept Him as Savior and Lord He forgives us and when we know that, how can we possibly not respond with humility and love Him back.
