When I finally saw my own lies,
I owned up to my sins before You,
and I did not try to hide my evil deeds from You.
I said to myself, “I’ll admit all my sins to the Eternal,”
and You lifted and carried away the guilt of my sin. Psalm 32:5 The Voice
Did you realize that forgiveness is a blessing from God? We may know it is a gift of Salvation, but many Believers live as though it’s something we need earn and pay for. But today’s verse reminds us that Jesus paid that debt in full, by actually taking our sin upon Himself and then carrying it away in His death to be remembered no more.
But our enemy wants to constantly remind us that of our sin and if we don’t believe we are forgiven he will use every opportunity to make us feel guilty. And if we continue to feel guilt, it will soon turn into shame and through that he can manipulate and control us and keep us on his hamster wheel of hopelessness. The only way to get off is to truly know you have God’s forgiveness through the sacrifice of His Son for all our sins, past, present and future.
If you still are having a difficult time knowing you are fully forgiven of your sin continually then read Isaiah 53, for it will tell you several times how Jesus would come to take and absorb our sin into Himself to the point of crushing and paying for it in death. Then only to overcome by rising up on the other side of death, alive and well to give eternal life to all who will believe in Him. Jesus gave His life so we could live free and forgiven, so perhaps we should start living like it.
