Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will give you a prophet like me, who is one of your own people. You must listen to everything he tells you. Anyone who does not listen to that prophet will die, cut off from God’s people. Acts 3:22-23
In the Scriptures Jesus is referred to as a Prophet, Priest and King. Each one of these describes a different aspect that through Him we are not only connected with God, but reconciled back to Him and now have a right to be called His children.
As a Prophet He is God’s representative to people. In the Old Testament specifically to the Israelites. And through them many Gentiles also came to know Him as the One True God. Often Jesus would visit and be a Messenger from God in His pre-incarnate state, to give direction to the leaders. Jesus reiterated this as He walked with Cleopas and his friend on the Road to Emmaus after His resurrection (Luke 24:13-35).
He revealed the heart of God as a loving, protective Father who watches over and saves His children. When we can see Jesus as God’s prophet, our relationship with God can deepen and help us better understand His ways. In the Old Testament the New Testament is concealed and in the New Testament the Old is revealed, and Jesus is the answer key to it all. Tomorrow we will look at Jesus as our Priest.
