“So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten,
The crawling locust,
The consuming locust,
And the chewing locust, Joel 2:25
Do you ever wish you could go control time, you know, go back and change things, suspend it so that when it’s something you’re enjoying it would last longer. And of course, speed it up, not only to get through things we don’t like, but to see what the future holds faster. Did you know, God can. He can, He created it, so He is not constrained by it like we are.
Today’s scripture comes right out and tells us God can restore all the enemy has stolen from us, and that includes time. When we always live in the “natural” world, we open ourselves up for the Satan, the god of this world to rob and steal from us in any way he can. He not only does this, but then wants us to believe that once he has taken something from us, it’s lost forever. But Jesus our Trespass Offering made a way for us to have 120% restoration and make the devil pay.
How does the enemy steal from us, well, with crisis, unforseen accidents, catastrophes just like swarming locusts. Just like creepy, crawling locusts, he quietly begins to undermine our thoughts and we find ourselves drifting farther and farther away from spending time with the Lord and following His ways. Then there are the stripping locusts that are ravenous, these are time wasters, the things that keep us busy and distracted. And last but not least the dreaded chewing locusts, these buggers cause anxiety, worry and fear and steal our joy, peace and hope and lots of other things.
But God wants to restore all the things they took from us. And restore it to a greater degree with better quality, or more quanitity or perhaps even both! Maybe it’s a relationship, He might not restore the one you lost, but give you a new and better one. Maybe a lost job, but then you find one that is even better than the one lost. Perhaps it’s more time to show people who Jesus truly is, not just tell them. All this is possible when we stop focusing on the issues, and start focusing on Jesus and all He has accomplished for us through His death and resurrection. When we rest in Who He is and all He is and believe that it’s possible great things can happen. Let’s make the devil pay us back 120% by trusting Jesus and knowing our restoration comes from Him alone and show the enemy he gained nothing.
