“If your eye is pure, there will be sunshine in your soul. But if your eye is clouded with evil thoughts and desires, you are in deep spiritual darkness. And oh, how deep that darkness can be! Matthew 6:22-23
The other day as I was trying to find out what was bothering my eye I thought about a Saturday Night Live skit with Mike Meyers where his character had a bad eye. No matter what happened, it was because of his bad eye. Believers often do the same thing, but in a Spiritual way.
Our spiritual vision can become blured and distorted when we dwell on issues that are affecting us. When all we see is the problem we become self absorbed and take our eyes off the only One who can give us the proper light to see them in the right perspective and help us overcome whatever the issue is.
Other times our spiritual sight is hindered because of what we see and watch. We know it isn’t good for us, it causes negative and destructive thoughts, that often lead to hurtful and destructive actions not onlyfor ourselves, but others and our relationship with the Lord.
Just like we search for whatever is causing irritation in our eyes, we need to do the same spiritually. When we ask Holy Spirit to reveal an unknown problem, He will, but then we need to be wise and follow through with what has been revelaed to us. Just like eye drops for our eyes clean them out, Holy Spirit will clean our spritual eyes out when we allow Him too. So next time your conscience is irritated, or you feel uncomfortable or just aren’t seeing things clearly, go to the Great Physician and He will cleanse your eyes and you’ll be seeing with great clarity.
