Then Peter began to speak up. “We’ve given up everything to follow you,” he said. “Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, 30 will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life. Mark 10:28-30
Our Weekly Bible Study is Becoming A Water Walker and it’s based on the passage of Peter walking on the water to Jesus. The lessons up to this point focused on Peter, the other disciples, the circumstances and Jesus’ response. But last night it was different, because the first question asked was “what is your boat?” Or in other words, what is keeping you from stepping out in faith that you believe Holy Spirit is leading you to do? Mark 10:28-30
If you’re a follower of Jesus and you feel like Peter, throwing your hands up and actually saying to Jesus, “we’ve given everything up” and here we are. Have you ever felt like that? What it cost you to follow Him has gotten you nowhere? It seems like everyone else is doing much better. Look at Jesus’ response, He acknowledges that they have given up the life they knew. But then He goes on to say, whatever we believe we have given up for Him, we will get a 100% return in this life, here on earth, along with persecution.
Now it doesn’t necessarily mean in quantity, but also in quality, and to top it all off we have been gifted eternal life. Jesus is telling us just as He did His disciples, you may have to give some things up in following Me, but I will always give you a greater return that will make your life more fulfilled and abundant. And the discussion that followed, was a time of sharing how Jesus has always shown up in our lives in some amazing ways. And this passage took on an entire new perspective for all of us. How many times does Jesus have to show Himself faithful to us before we will just take Him at His word? Yet, He remains patient and understanding as we learn to trust Him more as He leads us into a life that is beyond anything we have ever hoped, dreamed or imagined (Eph. 3:20)
