For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, and it pierces more sharply than a two-edged sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts. Hebrews 4:1
Over the past few months more and more people are sharing with me how the Scriptures are amazing them. Some have told me it’s like there are new verses in the Bible, although they have read them before they just never remembered them. Now the words are speaking to the situation they are in. Others find that though the devotional Scripture for the day had been written a long time ago, it’s fits what they are going through and for that day. All these things happened even though they weren’t expecting them.
Then there are those who approach the Word with great expectation. They know it is powerful, is timeless and works in every situation. But it is the word “living” that makes the difference for those who are expecting Holy Spirit to show and reveal something new and fresh to them everytime they open the word. And not surprisingly, He always delivers. It isn’t just a “word” for the day or situation, but it’s the Lord revealing Himself to them in a very personal and real way and deepens their relationship with Him.
I challenge you to try it for yourself. Next time you do your devotion, before you even open your Bible ask Holy Spirit to reveal to you what God is saying personally and thank Him for helping you get to know him better. Then read the passage for that day and just wait a moment in silence, then read the devotion. Then sit silently again and wait in His presence. Some days you may feel His presence, a peace or overwhelming joy. Other days you may find Him speaking to your heart. Others, He may answer something you have been dealing with for a long time. You may need to do this for a week or maybe more, but remember God wants a relationship with you more than you know, so give Him a chance to deepen your relationship with Him.
