When storms hit, rain pounded down and waters rose, levies broke and winds beat all the walls of that house. But the house did not fall because it was built upon rock. Matthew 7:25
The other day I began singing the old Sunday School song The Wise man and the Foolish man. One built his house on solid rock, the other on sand and then it bagan to rain. The house on the rock stayed standing, the house on the sand went crash! But here’s what came to my mind, the wise man might have built his house on the rock, but it still rained and according to the Scripture it was quite the storm.
So often we become disillusioned into thinking that because we accepted Jesus as our Savior and Lord, so it shouldn’t rain anymore. But in this parable Jesus told the same storm hit both the wise and foolish man, the difference was the foolish man still had a house after it was all over and went on with His life. Jesus was more or less telling us, it’s going to rain and storm, so prepare for it. It isn’t a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. Also notice both men had to build their house and it didn’t even seem to matter what materials they used, it was more of what was the foundation made of they built on.
Just like a real house the foundation is crucial not only for the initial building of it, but if anything should happen to it. A solid foundation that keeps its integrity means that anything can not only be repaired that sits on it, but it actually can be rebuilt. How awesome is that? We all have had times of erosion in our lives and have taken hits and blows. But when our foundation is built on Jesus, nothing this world can do to us will destroy us. Even when we make terrible mistakes, He can always help us rebuild our lives and through all the mess, it will bring Him all the glory and honor. So as the second verse of that little song says, “so build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ so your house will always stand. “
