When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, It is finished! And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. John 19:30 Amp
“It is finished!”, a quote of Jesus that is very familiar, even to non-Christians. When we hear it we often just think about the surface of that statement. What was finished? His life, Jesus was now dead. But is that what Jesus was really saying? Most times Jesus didn’t state the obvious, He often used parables and veiled answers to talk to those listening to Him, so why should this time be any different. But He didn’t do it to try to trick people or hide things from them. He spoke in parables often, so that those who heard would truly listen and hear and understand, so that they would know Him on a deeper level.
If we think back to His last meal with His disciples, He was teaching them things as they ate, so they would truly understand what was really going to happen. He just wasn’t going to die, He was putting an end once and for all to the power of sin over them and they would be forgiven, cleansed and free from it. He was going to be the final sacrifice, because His blood was going to open the veil between God and man forever, He was going to bring an end to sins control in our lives. He was beginning a New Blood Covenant with God that would change the world forever and disarm Satan forever. And anyone who accepts this gift of salvation through Him would be reconciled back to God and come to know Him as Abba Father.
Perhaps you’re reading this and you know of Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection. But you don’t truly know Him. You’ve never accepted His provision for having a personal relationship with God. No matter where you are in life, just reach out to HIm today, because He’s reaching out to you.
