So Moses brought their case before the Lord. 6 And the Lord replied to Moses, 7 “The claim of the daughters of Zelophehad is legitimate. You must give them a grant of land along with their father’s relatives. Assign them the property that would have been given to their father. Numbers 27:5-7
In Numbers 27:1-11 there is an account of five courageous daughters who were not afraid to ask God for something that would change the inheritance law forever. Their father Zelophehad, had died with no sons as heirs, so in that day, then the inheritance went to his brothers. But his daughters wanted to honor their father and make sure he would not be forgotten.
They were honorable like their father and stood before the Leadership Counsel and all the entire community and presented their case. They spoke with wisdom and showed honor to their father, the counsel and God. They basically were saying if our father had a son we would not be here, but since he didn’t we want his legacy to go on. The only thing Moses knew to do was to take the matter before the Lord Himself and today’s verse tells us God agreed with them and they received what they were asking for.
These women knew God and His law to be just, so they were not afraid to tell Him what was on their hearts, He listened and He answered in their favor for He saw their hearts were honorable. 1 Samuel 2:30 says “Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor.” When was the last time you thought about asking God for something big, but were afraid to ask Him? Be like the daughters of Zelophehad and boldly go into His Throne Room of Grace and ask with an honorable heart, then wait for His answer, for it will come. By the way, the number 5 is the number of grace and that is the heart of the Father and the Son.
