I love the Bible because it is accounts of people and how they responded and dealt with the issues of life. And although the way we live life changes, we have the same issues they had. Why, because we’re all human and human nature doesn’t change. For instance over the past months we often find ourselves becoming overwhelmed and wondering if anything will ever change.
There is an account in Judges 6 about a man named Gideon. He lived at a time when the Midianites were marauders roaming throughout Israel destroying everything and everyone they could. So we find Gideon in a winepress threshing wheat to hide from them so they won’t steal the grain. As he’s hiding, an Angel of the LORD comes to him and says “Hail, mighty man of valor, the Lord is with you“. Really? And apparently Gideon thought that too because his response is so like something we’ve said; “if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about? Didn’t they say, ‘The Lord brought us up out of Egypt’? But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to the Midianites.” Now let’s be honest we’ve all been there at least once in our lives, you know where we see ourselves as “less thans” or victims as we sit on our pitty pots. Here’s the problem with this attitude, God doesn’t see us as we see ourselves. He doesn’t see us as we are, He sees us as we should be. If we are Believers and have Holy Spirit living in us we are victors, more than conquerors!
See the Lord proved this by what He said next, Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” Look at what He said go in your strength, because God was sending him, He also empowered him. So are we! No matter what we see or hear, we need to remember we can stand in the victory of the cross!
