But in the day that I’m afraid, I lay all my fears before you
and trust in you with all my heart. Psalm 56:3 TPT
Today I spoke with 4 people who shared with me they were afraid of things they are seeing and hearing. I couldn’t help but think of today’s Psalm, that actually makes a statement, when I am afraid. . .
Now there are plenty of endings to this statement positive or negative. Most of the time we complete it with a negative phrase. When I am afraid, I can’t sleep, I think of all the things that could happen, become anxious, worry I will lose: my relationship, money, peace, house, job, control, freedoms, etc. The list goes on and on and the more we focus on what’s going on in our nation and the world the more fearful we become. I believe the more we fear, the more we try to solve the problems ourselves. Take a good look at what’s causing you to fear and ask yourself, is this something I can change?
For the most part the answer to this question is NO! So what are we to do? The second part of this verse gives the only answer for every fear we face, to lay them before the Lord and trust Him with everything that is in us! Then the peace that Jesus promised, you know the kind that passes all understanding (Phil 4:7) will rule in our minds and hearts and overcome the fear. Beloved of God, why do we put ourselves through so much unnecessary anxiety, suffering, pain and heartache when we have One who is waiting for us to give Him all our fears and He will give us peace, rest and joy. Now that’s an exchange we can’t pass up.
