The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for wisdom. So God replied, “Because you have asked for wisdom in governing my people with justice and have not asked for a long life or wealth or the death of your enemies— I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have! 1 Kings 3:10-12
God was so pleased with Solomon’s answer that He gave him what he asked for and even what he didn’t. Yesterday we learned that Solomon asked for a hearing(understanding) heart, wisdom and discernment, not for selfish reasons and self-promotion, but so he could govern Israel better. But in God like manner, in asking for something to help someone else, he himself received the benefit from a hearing heart and discernment. In seeking a relationship with God, he received that wisdom to govern himself, which then helped him to govern the people.
Think about what a different world this would be if we all would seek God’s wisdom to govern ourselves better so we could better help others. So many of the issues of the day would not be issues at all. There would be no deadlocks in government, no greed on Wall Street or Big Business, in general people would have disagreements, but would work around them. it would definitely be a different world. Reality tells us that until Jesus returns for His mellenial reign that won’t happen, but that doesn’t excuse Believer’s not to live with godly wisdom and an understanding heart. In so doing we will impact the world to let people see how amazing life can be when we allow God to lead and guide.
You may be saying, yes, but Colette, we will never be able to have wisdom like Solomon, God told him there would never be another man like him. That is true, but many students of the Word believe God was referring to someone in a “kingship” position over a nation, not spiritually. That thought can be confirmed in New Testament verses, such as, Matthew 7:7; Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be open. John 15:7; Remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given to you. 1 John 5:14; And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And of course James 1:5 that when we want wisdom all we have to do is ask for it and we won’t get a little, but He will give it to us liberally!
When was the last time you asked for wisdom, meant it and then waited for an answer?
