Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” Galatians 4:6
On Friday Night our Kids Klub made Valentine’s Day cards for their parents. As they were coloring, we were talking about the things we love about our parents. None of them had to think about things, they were everyday things we parents take for granted. Like helping with homework, making their favorite foods, keeping them safe, reading to them, tucking them into bed and picking them up after school.
The insides of the cards were blank so each of them could write a personal note inside. Some of them are younger and asked me if I would write it for them. One of them said he knew how to spell his Moms name, so I wrote Dear and then he began to spell “Mommy”. I was waiting for a first name, but to him her first name was Mommy. He also knew and how to spell his Dad’s name. It was so cute as well as the message he wrote.
On the way home I had to smile as I thought about happy he was to know and spell her name. And then I thought about how we as blood bought children know God’s name and how to spell it. His name to us is Abba, or in English Daddy. How excited should we be to know God so intimately and personally that we call him Daddy .And how pleased and blessed He is to know we love Him so much. Just like the Dad who read his card and I could see the love and joy on his face. What a joy it must be to our Abba’s heart when we don’t just see Him as Almighty God, but rather a Daddy waiting with open arms and a smile to greet us every time we enter into His presence. Have you run into our Abba’s arms of love lately?
