Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will]. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 AMPC
Being thankful and grateful can actually give you a peace no matter what is going on all around you. Here’s the problem, when things aren’t going well, we find it difficult to be thankful. On the other hand, when things are going very well we forget to be thankful. Yet today’s scripture reminds us that we are supposed to give thanks IN everything not for everything.
Who in their right mind would be grateful for a crisis situation in their family? No one, those things even make God sad. However, it begs us to make a life statement of who God is to us. Do we focus on the problem and the issues and look all around us for help and relief? Or do we trust the only One who has never failed us? When we are thankful for Him and focus on what is right in our lives, we very often find the answers, peace and comfort we were looking for in the problem itself.
The same is when we are experiencing good times in our lives and things are going great. Thanking God for what we are experiencing and have brings an overwhelming sense of gratitude that makes us generous and kind in ways we never thought. It gives us the freedom of mind to realize what we have are gifts to not only be appreciated and used, but to be shared with others.
There is no downside to being thankful and grateful no matter what circumstances we are IN.
