“My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” John 20:28-29 NLT
Jesus can present Himself in so many ways to us, as our Savior, Shepherd, Healer, Provider, Protector, Rock, Fortress. and the list goes on and on. But the one name that we have a difficult time calling Him and meaning it, is Lord. Why? Because it means we need to willingly submit to His rule. In Greek the word for Lord is Kyrios which means possessor, owner, master. Just those words alone bristle against us. But we need to remember, His love for us and He bought us with His own life’s blood, so that we could be set free to bow to Him willingly and out of adoration and gratefulness. He is not a harsh master.
When we truly know Him and see Him as He truly is, like Thomas we can’t help but call Him Lord and our God. When you serve a Master who loves you so much He was willing to give His life so you could live an abundant life, it is easy to do. Especially when we know that we are more than His servants, we are joint heirs with the Servant King. Recalling this helps us know we have royal blood flowing through our veins and we need to start acting and speaking like it and declaring the word of the Lord over ourselves and others. And in so doing our minds will be renewed and through Holy Spirit we will continue to be transformed until we see Him face to face.
