But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. Romans 8:25
There is nothing more that makes time go slowly then, well, waiting for something to happen. Right now we seem to be in a state of animated suspension in so many areas of our lives. If there is any progress it seems to be slow or even backwards. So many emotions are coming to the surface, frustration, anger, confusion, disappointment just to name a few. So what should we do while we are waiting for a decision to be made.
There are several steps we can take not only to help us continue to live, but to influence others. The first thing is to remember God is still on the throne and Jesus is still sitting at His right hand ever interceding for us. That’s right, none of what has been going on in 2020 has been a surprise to God. We may not see it, but He’s working all things together for the good of those who love Him. I know that’s a headscratcher, but true just the same. When He hears our prayers spoken with heartfelt belief, He can’t help but want to respond to that trust in Him.
Second, we need to keep praising and worship Him. Psalm 22:3 reminds us that He inhabits our praise. Isaiah 61:3 tells us to put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. There are countless verses showing us the way into His presence is through worship.
Third, we need to be grateful and thankful. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us to be thankful IN all things, not for all things. Because this is the will of God for us. Another headscratcher, why would a loving God have us to through hard times? Mainly because that’s when we see who He truly is the clearest. Think about it, in the account of raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus made it very plain, it had to happen so people would believe God sent Him (Luke 11:42). If you read the entire account, people believed Jesus could heal, but they got stuck there, they didn’t understand that He is the Resurrection and the Life even though He taught them that. Even Mary and Martha were stuck in the though of future resurrection not the immediate. But once Jesus called Lazarus forth after four days in the tomb, they got a better understanding that He was empowered and sent by God. They also heard Him say “Father, I thank you, because You always hear me.”
Did you get that? He said God always hears Him and answers Him. While we’re in a state of waiting we need to remember that although we think the answer should come immediately, God may have something greater in mind that will undeniably show His glory. In other words, the only reason something happened was because God caused it. So while we’re waiting, let’s praise and worship Him with grateful and thankful hearts and ask Holy Spirit to help any unbelief we may have, so all the Jesus is will flow through our lives. And know that God always hears us when we seek Him with all that is in us.
Waiting on God is believing He is doing what we can’t.
