So the Lord himself will give you this sign: A virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and she will name him Immanuel [God Is With Us]. Isaiah 7:14
The word wait just makes most of us want to scream, because we have become accustomed to instant gratification. No, really think about it. How many times have we stood in front of a microwave tapping our foot in frustration because what’s in it that used to take more than twice as long to get done, is still not getting done fast enough. We stand inside or sit in a drive thru of a fast food restaurant only grumbling “I thought this was fast food”. We call someone for service of appliances, cars or utilities and we can’t believe they are not just sitting there waiting for us to call! Yes, whether we like it admit or not we don’t like to wait. But God is all about waiting.
Too often we pray and if God doesn’t answer us in three to five days we get frustrated and give up even if His word promises it to us. Our logic is He must not want me to have it. Really? Did He say that to you, or are you just impatient and wanting the answer your way instead of His? Think about our verse for the day. Isaiah prophesied Jesus’ birth over 700 years before Matthew and Luke could record it in the Gospels as fulfilled. Now I know you’re thinking Colette you’re crazy, no one can wait 700 years for an answer. And I agree. But here’s the thing in Hebrews 10:23 it reminds us that the One (God) who made the promise is faithful to fulfill it. And if you read Hebrews you will find that the author was speaking from personal experience. Reminding us that even if God doesn’t answer us the way we imagined, His way ultimately is the best for us.
God’s definition of waiting isn’t sitting and twiddling our thumbs while we He seems to be taking His good old time to move. Waiting for Him means we need to be moving and doing what we know to do and keeping on looking for His answer with great expectation. So, what are you waiting for God to do for you? Have you prayed and now just sitting back with crossed arms and tapping your foot in dismay because He hasn’t answered? Or are you up and out in the world being a light, telling of His love, mercy, grace and forgiveness? Even if you are home bound, you still can pray for opportunities for those who are out sharing Jesus with those who are searching. Truth is while you’re doing that, God is working on your behalf even though you may not see it or feel it, but your answer will come in an amazing way. So wait with great expectation and you will see the Mighty Hand of the Lord!
Little extra thought. It’s helpful to remember that the same God that took 700 years to give an answer in the Bible, is the same God who also answered people the moment they asked. Now most of us find ourselves hearing from God between the two extremes.
