The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. John 1:9
Happy December everyone! It’s time to start celebrating Advent the preparation for the true meaning of Christmas. The first week of Advent symbolizes hope, with Jesus being the Light that can never be put out. The world then needed this all encompassing Light, just as it does now.
But now the light has been passed on to us (Matthew 5:14-16) and we need to be that shinning city on a hill so the world can see the true Jesus it needs so desperately. This time of year is perfect to use the symbols of Christmas to talk with people about what Christmas is really about. All the lights remind us that Jesus came as the Light of the world. The evergreens remind us He brought us eternal life. The tree evergreen is pointing to heaven and the wreath is a never ending ring, just like His love for us. The Poinsettia which has been dubbed the Christmas Flower tells the crucifixion story, with the yellow inside representing the glory of God, the prongs are for the crown of thorns and nails, the red petals are for the blood and green leaves, the color of life.
How many times have we had opportunity to share these pointers with others to bring Jesus back into the holiday. But most of us have become dull living in this world and don’t give these gifts another thought. But what a better way to break the ice with someone than to talk about something we have in common the symbols of Christmas but with a deeper meeting. These facts may sound trivial, but people are looking for something deeper theses days. They are looking for any glimmer of hope they can find, that proverbial light in the darkness. And after all, when light stands with darkness, the light always wins. So now go and light your world!
