Christ himself was like God in everything.
But he did not think that being equal with God was something to be used for his own benefit.
But he gave up his place with God and made himself nothing.
He was born as a man
and became like a servant.
And when he was living as a man,
he humbled himself and was fully obedient to God,
even when that caused his death—death on a cross.
So God raised him to the highest place.
God made his name greater than every other name Philippians 2:6-9
Yesterday we talked about Jesus being our perfect example of how to live here on earth with all the authority, power and abilities of heaven. Here is why a lot of Believers have a difficult time believing they can do what Jesus did and become more and more like Him. Today’s verse tells us He remained every ounce God the Son, but laid aside all the privileges and power, that is until He was baptized and received Holy Spirit.
Think about it, while He was in heaven Holy Spirit, the Father and Himself had equal power. But when He came to earth as a baby, although very much still God, but He left the privileges Holy Spirit power in heaven as He grew up. That’s why Luke 2:52 tells us He grew in wisdom, stature and favor with God and man. He not only had knowledge, but wisdom and His power on earth was not complete and functional until He received Holy Spirit at Baptism. It’s just like us, before Salvation we can have knowledge and worldly wisdom, but after accepting Jesus as Savior and Lord we now have Holy Spirit power, who gives us the mind of Christ and godly wisdom. When we get baptized we are announcing that we are like Jesus by showing our death to this life and arising as a new creation with a new Spirit that empowers us.
We will never be equal with God until we get to heaven, but we need to see ourselves as His children, joint heirs with Jesus and have been given His authority and power to use in His name since He ascended to the right hand of the Father. Beloved we need to begin to believe with all our hearts that Jesus empowered us with His Holy Spirit so we could continue to bring heaven to earth. For when we do, things will begin to turn and His grace and power will flow through us and we will walk in the same way the first Christians did and counter all the attempts of the enemy to hinder and steal from us.
