Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “Lord,” the man said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.” Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared. Matthew 8:2-3
Don’t you just love the authenticity of the healing accounts of Jesus? This man though he had seen Jesus heal others, and he must have otherwise why would he go to Him, still wasn’t sure He would heal him. Now be honest, isn’t that just like us? When we need healing or some form of provision we say things like, Lord, if it’s Your will or just like the man with leprosy, Lord if you’re willing.
And just like His answer to the man, we know He is willing because His word says it. But yet we doubt, especially when He doesn’t answer our prayer in what we consider is a timely manner. The we begin to question our faith, do we have enough? or we start chronicling our sins, wondering if we did anything for Him to withhold our request from us. And the mind games go on and on. Instead of just holding on to what we know and keep believing that in time we will see our request answered, although not as we may have pictured, and sometimes even better.
So next time you go to Him in prayer remember, Jesus reached out and touched him, a Leper and said I Am willing. He still reaches out and touches people today and quietly says I Am willing. If that doesn’t give you hope to keep believing, I don’t know what will.
