O sing to the Lord a new song;
Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Splendor and majesty are before Him;
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.
Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness;
Tremble [in submissive wonder] before Him, all the earth. Psalm 96:1, 6, 9 AMP
Yesterday in our church service we opened with these verses and went into a wonderful time of worship in song. Music, it’s a universal way to communicate. It also is a wonderful way to help people engage in worship of our Lord and Savior. Worship is a combination or our mind, body and spirit working together in giving honor and praise to the One who has given us everything.
Worship comes from the Greek Word Proskuneo- to kiss the hand of, to prostrate oneself, to submit to One in authority. Every time I think of these three ways of worship, I think about the times of Kings, queens, knights and kingdoms. The images come from watching those time period movies. The ones where when coming into the presence of royalty, the person would approach the king, kiss his ring, bow or kneel before him waiting to be at his service.
With that in mind, it’s no big stretch as we’re singing songs of praise and devotion to picture ourselves coming into our Kings presence, kneeling before Him and kissing His right hand of righteousness. As we physically bow it places our minds in a position of service and to receive from Him. How can we not be in awe of who He is when we’re lifting our voices about who He is and how much He loves us! And our only response is to love Him in return. We need to worship Him more, so we can keep Him ever before us and remember how awesome He truly is and yet, He is always with us.
