God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. 1 Corinthians 1:30 NLT
For the fifth year in a row I am doing the Wisdom Challenge with Pedro Adao, reading a chapter of Proverbs every day. He has a special guest on from various walks of life and they talk about what they have gleaned from the chapter of the day. I can’t tell you how much I have learned and how it has deepened my desire to understand the wisdom of Proverbs and how to apply it to my life.
This past Wednesday was chapter 8 which is about “Lady Wisdom”, and we focused on verses 22-31. These verses remind us that wisdom was before God formed anything else. Wisdom was there from the very beginning and as you read the entire chapter, you can’t help but realize wisdom is Jesus, which confirms what Paul was saying in today’s verse.
Some have an issue with wisdom being portrayed as a woman, but that is because wisdom is loving, nurturing, caring and protecting of all who embrace her and her counsel. But then again when we think of Jesus or God as our Father, don’t we think the same way about them. However, we also need to remember that Proverbs was written for Solomon’s son, so both King Solomon and his sons mother were making wisdom look attractive. They wanted their son to embrace her and that he would follow and listen to her counsel.
