And so, dear brothers and sisters who belong to God and are partners with those called to heaven, think carefully about this Jesus whom we declare to be God’s messenger and High Priest. Hebrews 3:1 NLT
Today’s Scripture gives us a directive, to “think carefully” about Jesus being our High Priest, but why? Well, yesterday we saw Him as a Prophet, the one sent to represent God to us. But now as our High Priest, He’s representing us to God. We can better understand just what that means when we look at how the High Priest represented the people in the Tabernacle and Temple.
The High Priest represented the entire nation of Israel and once a year on Yom Kippur he went into the Holy of Holies to sprinkle blood on the mercy seat and ask for forgiveness for the people for a year. If the Priest was a good representative, their sins were forgiven. If not their sins would be with them for another year. So it was of utmost importance for the High Priest to be love God and be a good representative of Him. But yet this only covered their sins and lasted only a year. Also, while he was doing his Priestly duties he could never sit down while He was in the inner court, because his work was never completed.
When Jesus ascended into heaven after His resurrection He opened the throne room of grace to all who accept His sacrifice, for His blood and self were pure and sinless. The price for sin was paid once for all, never to be sacrificed again. When He ascended into heaven ten days before Pentecost He entered the throne room and sat down at the right hand of the Father because the work had been completed and authority and dominion have been restored to all who believe in Him.
This is why we can know He is ever interceding for us. He is our representative on a momentary basis. So when God sees us, He sees us through His Son the perfect Lamb of God. It’s not about us, it truly is all about Jesus!
Transformation thought: When we approach the throne of grace, Abba sees us through the righteousness of His Son and we are accepted and loved.
